Submitted by Linda Lavigne Mar-02

William Robert MacPherson
I am searching my family of MacPhersons. I know they came from N. S. and then moved to lower N.B. around the Riverside Albert and Hopewell Cape area. My grandfather then moved to Dalhousie, N.B. His name was Thomas Wilbur MacPherson. My father was James Pickard MacPherson who was born in Moncton, N.B. and then moved to Dalhousie with his family, where I now reside. I am not at home right now but will be there Sunday the 24th and my e-mail is lindalavigne412@hotmail.com if you would like to get in touch. I am always looking for new relatives oon my dads side. I need help. Apparently, there were about 7 brothers that came over from Scotland together and this is about all the history I know. Thanks for your help, it will be greatly appreciated

Greetings,
I am researching my grandmother and her birth family. I believe she is: Veronica McEachren, born in 1881 in Londonderry and moved to Pugwash as a child. I can’t find the family on the 189l or 1901 census. Her parents’ names are John and Maggie. Is there any information please that you have that would help me in my search? The family were Roman Catholics and I wonder if there is a church record of her baptism but I don’t know where to look. Thanks from Victoria, B.C.

Scotia, died 22 Jan 1931 at Malagash, Cumberland, Nova Scotia (dates and
locations from the record of her grave: McNab’s Hill Cemetery, Malagash,
Cumberland County, Nova Scotia).

Margaret married Morris Allen of Chatham, New Brunswick, on 20 Nov 1872 at
Memramcook, Westmorland, New Brunswick (Drouin). That record indicates she
was the daughter of Murdock and Mary (Scott) McLeod of Pugwash, NS.
Another McLeod daughter was Jennie, married to Henry Burton Weston in
Waltham, Massachusetts.

She and Morris had two children: Mary Ann (known as Minnie) and James
William., both born in Chatham. Minnie in 1873 and James in 1877.

Morris died 18 Jun 1912 in Royalston, Massachusetts, and shortly after
Margaret returned to live with her son, James, in Malagash. James worked
for the salt mine there. James died in 1945 and is also buried in McNab’s
Hill Cemetery. James wife, Christine (Tina), died in 1969.

Minnie (Allen) Hutchinson was my great-grandmother. In about 1953 and 1961
my family visited Aunt Tina in Malagash, but she had a niece in
Massachusetts and I am not sure if she was in Malagash when she died or if
she as living with that niece (whose name, I think, was McDonald).

I have not been able to identify “Murdock and Mary (Scott) McLeod of
Pugwash.”

Thanks for any insights!

I am researching Joseph Latta and his descendants on my husband’s side of the family. Joseph was born about 1798 in Ireland, likely St. Johnston near Ardagh, and died in 1874 at River Hebert. He likely was in Nova Scotia by 1820. He married Elizabeth McMorris or Morris (1811 – 1844), who came with her parents to Cumberland County in 1817. Joseph and Elizabeth had four children: Abraham (1835 – 1919) who married Diana Wood, Matthew (abt. 1838 – 1864), Elizabeth (1840 – 1920) who married Thomas Edward Anderson of Sackville about 1861, and Jane (abt. 1844 – 1882) who married David Amos. Most of the Lattas in earlier times were in the River Hebert region.

MEADE – Archie (Art), Amherst, Cumb. Co., NS
Submitted by Gary Knott Apr-02

Good Morning, My original e-mail follows. I have had many replies but one has said that my Grandfather’s name was Archie (Art) Meade and lived in Amherst. I am assuming that he has since passed away. If that is the case is there any record of this and does it link to my father, Thomas Edward Meade, born 1919. If you can confirm this I would be most grateful.

Thank you
Gary Edward Meade (Knott)

Good morning,

Please allow me to introduce myself. My birth name was Gary Edward Meade and I was born in England, UK, in 1943. My father, Thomas Edward Meade, was a Gunner in the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, No 3608. He was also shown as being a farmer on my birth certificate. He married my mother in 1941 in Beckenham, Kent, England. After the war he was reposted from Western Europe back to Canada. My mother and I followed some while later in 1946/7 from Plymouth to Halifax NS on the Acquitainia and then by train to Amherst where we were met by my Father and my Grandfather. We travelled by car for ‘some hours’ to the home of my Grandparents. That is the only information I have to the location of my place of residence for the next few months. The marriage did not work out and my mother and I went to stay with relatives, near to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US, named Meg and John Reid. Meg was the sister of my mother’s father, James Jack who was Scots. We returned to England via the Queen Elizabeth and my mother eventually remarried in 1951, thus my change of name to Knott.

So, having given the background, what am I looking for? I am at present researching my roots and have uncovered a large number of relatives on my maternal side. My paternal side has one name only, that of my father. I am trying to trace my Canadian side and am at present coming up with a lot of blanks. I would like to know my Grandparent’s names and also those of any other relatives I may have. Where they came from etc, etc. I am posting on this site for obvious reasons and also on the New Brunswick site as we may have travelled that far north. I have been surprised at the low number of Meade’s so far as it was originally found in Scotland, Ireland and certain counties in England. If you can help or give me any leads I would be extremely grateful.

Many thanks

Hello Cumberland County Geneological Society,

I am writing to trace my grandmother’s lineage. There are a few references online to a Samuel Morris b. Aug. 7, 1825 in Advocate Harbour, King’s County and died Aug. 1913 in Advocate Harbour, in your county. I was wondering if there was any more information on him, since he may be my grandmother’s grandfather. I am sure you’ve seen many sentences which begin with “the only information I have is…” but I will have to do this too.

The only information I have is as follows:

Father: Samuel Morris b?, d?
George Seymore Morris, b. April 19, 1868 – d. 1941 married Mabel Annie Kehoe (1883-1921), from the South Shore somewhere, daughter Hannah Sell Morris b. 1913 – Hants County, named after an aunt, I believe.

Thanks for your time. I hope this does not requrie a lot of effort.
